Find a place for your child to get a taste of creating their own art and sculpture. Children's classes focus on building skills and imagination, learning and having fun. Animals, color and shapes, and crafts, are all part of the ever-changing Children's Art Program. Classes fill quickly. Register early to ensure your child's place in class. SPRING 2010 CHILDREN'S ART CLASSESArtist Workshop - Learn how to use a variety of art media while creating two and three-dimensional works of art. Drawing, painting, printing-making, and sculpture will be explored. Students create portraits of people and animals, still lifes, and landscapes, working from still life set-ups, photographs, and the imagination. 2010 SUMMER CAMP ART ADVENTURES Whaling Week - Sketch scenes of sea mammals from huge whales playing in the ocean to walrus and seals sunning themselves on the shore. Following in the tradition of early sailors, use the sketch to create your own carved plaster scrimshaw. Clay Creations - During the first two days of the camp, use a pottery wheel and hand-sculpting to create your own free-style pottery creations. On the last day of the camp, put the finishing touches on your pottery using a variety of glazes. Pick-up of fired pottery will be announced on the dates when the pottery is glazed. All Clay Creations sessions will take place at Hopewell School except the August 17 glazing session which will be held at the Glastonbury Art Guild. Camp 1: Tuesday and Wednesday, July 13 and 14, 9:30 am - 12:30 pm - Create pottery Beach Safari - Sketch beach scenes from memories, pictures, and your imagination - the seashore, a lush island with sail boats. Use your sketch to create both a painting and a sculpture using a variety of art media. Creative Critters - Choose your favorite summertime critter to draw and sculpt. Frogs, dragonflies, butterflies, salamanders, spiders - learn to draw them and then use your drawing to create a sculpture of them in the grass, on a flower or rock. Print Making - Learn to make your own original prints on paper, wood, and cloth using readily available materials - monoprints, sponges cut into shapes, etc. Create a textured collage and then use it to make prints. Portraits Made Easy - Whether it’s a self-portrait or a picture of your best friend or favorite pet, learn to draw faces of people and animals of your choice. Mix the colors to bring the portrait to life and then create a clay scupture of your portrait. Sculpture Studio - Create sculptures using natural objects (shells, stones, leaves, sticks) or objects brought from home (small toys, balls, etc.). Embellish the sculpture with hand carving. Use the sculpture to create a mold and then a plaster cast of your sculpture. |
