SUPPLY LIST - OIL PAINTING WITH JACK BRODERICKDon’t run out and buy anything yet. When it comes to materials my philosophy is to do the least economical damage. If you have some paints and brushes bring them in to the first class and I will look at them. If you don’t have any supplies wait until the first class and I will tell you what I think you should buy. The following page is a list of the materials I generally use. I will explain it during the first class. Materials List Oils: Winsor Newton Artist Colors 34ml (studio tubes) or same size tubes of Gamblin Oil Colors (Do not buy tubes marked “hue”.) Thinner : Use only THIN X Green minerals spirits or Turpenoid or Gamsol Brushes: Flats (bristles, hog’s hair)… I use Robert Simmons brushes Palette Knife: Buy a palette knife that looks like a trowel with an offset handle Paper towels: Bounty… they’re extra absorbent..better yet.. get select-a-size Palette: White plastic palette (about $3) Canvas: 12x16 and 16x20 canvas boards and one or two stretched Fredrix canvases of the same size. Palette cup: a small clip on palette cup to be used for thinner when painting, a double cup is good, if you can find one. Outdoor stuff: bug spray, suntan lotion, hat, water… granola bars… cell phone… Easel: Easels are available at the Art Guild for your use. If you are planning to buy an easel for at-home use, I will be happy to make some recommendations. |
